About Me

Odysseus

Still stuck on the Island

It seems I'm stranded on the island of Ogygia and Atlas's daughter won't let me go back to Ithaka. Penelope, my wife does not know what has become of me. I fear about the suitors that plunder my home and bring unhappiness to my family. I have heard that Athena has gone to talk to Telemakhos disguised as the boy the Taphian captain named Mentes. She is going to tell him that I am alive and that I will be back. I know my friend Athena will treat my son as a friend with great respect. Perhaps she will direct Telemakhos to come and find me. I know after Athena's visit Telemakhos will stand up to the evil suitors and kick them out of my house.

Positions on events

Personal way:
The influence of Telemakhos helped him become a stronger person. She encouraged him to take control of his family's kingdom and not let the suitors pursue his mother and rule their lives. He did this by directing the suitors to leave and return home after camping at his home.

Philosophical way:
The absence of Odysseus left the door open for others to take advantage of the situation with young Telemakhos and his mother in an undefended kingdom. In life, any possession left unprotected will be subject to others invading and taking control of the situation.
